Natick, Massachusetts
Looking for house painters in Natick?
Natick sits at the geographic center of MetroWest, 11 miles from our base in Maynard, and its neighborhoods reflect nearly four centuries of history layered over one another. You will find Victorian-era homes on Walnut Hill, 1950s Campanelli ranch houses in Wethersfield, Cape Cods around Jennings Pond and contemporary colonials at the Wayland line. Each of those housing types comes with its own prep demands, surface conditions and color vocabulary.
The town is probably best known today for the Natick Mall, the U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center, and the stretch of Route 9 that forms the spine of the Golden Triangle retail district shared with Framingham. But the neighborhoods away from those commercial corridors are quiet and residential, with mature trees, sidewalked streets and the kind of settled-in character that makes exterior painting both satisfying and technically demanding.
Pro House Painters has been in business since 2016 and carries the full range of residential services: interior painting, exterior painting, cabinet refinishing, liquid wallpaper, deck building and restoration, and kitchen and bathroom remodeling, plus commercial painting. Every job begins with a free walkthrough and a written estimate.
The Town of Natick handles permits, building inspections, and other municipal services from the Town Offices on East Central Street. Painting alone rarely requires a permit, though deck construction and structural repairs do, and we will flag anything permit-related during the estimate conversation.

Natick's housing spans a wide range of ages. Walnut Hill Victorians and homes near Natick Center that predate 1978 may have lead-based paint, which requires Massachusetts-compliant containment and cleanup during exterior prep. That step adds time and cost but is required by state law. Homes from that era also frequently carry many layers of old paint on exterior wood siding, so scraping and feathering those edges takes longer than on newer construction.
The Campanelli ranch homes in Wethersfield and many of the Cape Cods in the Oak Street area are mid-century construction with aluminum or vinyl siding. Those surfaces cost less to prep than painted wood clapboard but require the right primer and a compatible finish product. Many of these homes are also being expanded or remodeled, which often creates a mix of old and new surfaces on the same exterior.
South Natick's older homes along the Charles River corridor are often surrounded by mature trees whose canopy keeps siding shaded and damp on north and west exposures. Those surfaces need thorough washing and a mildew-resistant primer before finish coats, and that prep is reflected in the estimate. The clearest way to understand your specific price is a free on-site walkthrough, where we assess the surfaces and write down exactly what each step will cost.

Interior painting
Finding the right interior painters in Natick
Interior painting in Natick covers a wide range of situations. A Victorian on Walnut Hill has high ceilings, original plaster and detailed millwork that rewards careful brush work and patience. A Campanelli ranch in Wethersfield has lower ceilings, a more open plan and often wood paneling that homeowners want either painted out or refreshed. A newer colonial at the Wayland line may just need clean walls, updated trim color and a fresh coat in the kitchen.
Whatever the house, the condition of the surfaces determines how the finished job looks. Cracked plaster, water-stained ceilings and damaged trim need to be repaired before any paint goes on, or the new color will only highlight the problems underneath. We assess those conditions during the estimate and include any necessary patching and prep in the written scope.
Sheen matters in every room. Flat finishes hide the small waves and patches in older plaster and are the right choice for most ceilings and living spaces. Eggshell adds a little durability for hallways and bedrooms. Kitchens, bathrooms and all painted trim do better in satin or semi-gloss, which stand up to cleaning and moisture. We specify the right sheen for every surface in the estimate rather than leaving it to chance.
Color choices for Natick homes benefit from testing. Browse the Benjamin Moore paint color collection for ideas, then let us put sample patches on your actual walls before you commit. Colors read very differently under different light conditions, and north-facing rooms or rooms with limited window area often need a warmer or lighter shade than you would expect from looking at a chip.
For homeowners whose main goal is updating the kitchen, cabinet refinishing gives solid wood or wood-veneer cabinets a new color and finish without the cost, timeline or disruption of a full replacement.
What to look for in a Natick interior painter
- Are patching, sanding and caulking listed in the written estimate, or are they add-ons?
- Is a specific product line and sheen called out for each room?
- How are floors, furniture and built-ins protected during the job?
- For pre-1978 homes, what lead-safe work practices will the crew follow?
- What does a typical workday look like on a Natick job?

Exterior painting
Choosing exterior painters in Natick
Natick's exterior painting season runs roughly from late April through mid-October, when temperatures hold above 50°F and surfaces stay dry long enough for paint to cure properly. Within that window, spring and early summer are the most popular dates, partly because they give the longest curing window before winter and partly because homeowners want the work done before the summer fills up. Booking an estimate in late winter gives you the most options.
Preparation is the part of an exterior job that determines how long the finish lasts. For Natick's older wood-sided homes, thorough prep means pressure washing the whole envelope, scraping every area where the paint has lifted or cracked, sanding the edges smooth, replacing any soft or rotted trim sections, caulking open joints at windows and trim, and priming every bare area before the first finish coat. Skipping or rushing any of those steps shortens the life of the job.
Homes built before 1978 in Natick may have lead-based paint on exterior surfaces. Massachusetts regulations require contractors to use specific containment and cleanup practices when disturbing lead paint, and the Massachusetts lead-safe homeowner guide explains what those steps look like and what homeowners should ask to see from any contractor they hire.
The Charles River and several ponds give Natick its landscape character but also mean that some south Natick and north Natick homes have siding that stays wet on shaded exposures. Mold and mildew are worth treating as part of the wash and prep, not after the fact. We use a mildewcide-treated primer on affected surfaces to extend the life of the finish coat on those north and west sides.
For exterior color ideas, the Sherwin-Williams color tool is well organized by architecture type and regional palette. We always test samples on the actual siding before the full job, because siding colors look considerably different at scale and in outdoor light than they do on a small chip.
Our exterior painting steps in Natick

- Scrape and sand failing paint with lead-safe containment where required
- Repair or replace rotted trim sections; caulk all open joints
- Prime all bare wood and spot-prime any repaired areas
- Apply two finish coats in appropriate weather; walk the job with the homeowner

Commercial painting
Commercial painting for Natick businesses
Natick has a concentrated commercial landscape, with the Natick Mall and the Golden Triangle drawing regional traffic, smaller storefronts around Natick Center, and office and research space in the Route 9 corridor. For any of those properties, fresh paint is a low-cost, high-impact way to keep a space looking sharp and inviting.
Commercial painting in Natick is largely a scheduling and coordination exercise. Retail and restaurant spaces usually need work done before opening or after closing; office buildings can often be painted floor by floor. We plan around your hours, use low-VOC, low-odor products in occupied spaces, and keep the work area clean and safe for customers and staff during the day.
High-traffic commercial interiors — reception areas, corridors, service counters — need coatings that are washable and scrubbable, not standard interior latex. We specify the right product for each surface type and traffic level. For landlords and property managers, we offer unit-turnover painting that fits between tenant transitions, with a single estimate covering multiple units in the same building.
Exterior commercial work around Natick often involves a mix of siding, masonry, metal panels and EIFS. Each of those surfaces needs the right primer and topcoat. Metal entry doors, railings and bollards need rust-inhibiting primers. Masonry needs a breathable coating that lets the wall dry from the inside. We assess each substrate during the walkthrough and specify the correct system.
Commercial painting work we handle in Natick
- Retail storefronts and restaurant interiors
- Office lobbies, corridors and conference rooms
- Rental unit turnover painting
- Exterior facades, masonry and entry areas

What our customers say
“I hired Pro House Painters to paint our aluminum siding colonial home. They worked very hard to prep the house (power wash) and then paint the house, trim and shutters. They did a truly wonderful job. They were neat, were super careful with all of my plants and flowers (I have a lot) and the crew was super nice! The house looks tremendous! …”
“Rodrigo and his crew were a pleasure to deal with - very courteous, neat, friendly, and professional. They painted six rooms, two of which needed skim coating, a stairwell, and three ceilings, two of which needed repair, all for the price of $7429. Very highly recommended.”
“I am 83 years old and have hired many painters through the years. Pro House Painters rank Number 1 in my book! They recently painted my large deck and bannisters, my shed, and all the trim on my house. … Rodrigo responds immediately to texts and the crew shows up on time, as promised, and works diligently all day.”

Prep that makes paint last
Scraping, sanding, patching, caulking and spot priming take most of the time on a good job. We do that work properly, because it is what keeps a finish from peeling after the first winter.
Your home and garden protected
Floors and furniture are covered, plants and shrubs are shielded, and the work area is cleaned at the end of every day. Customers mention it in their reviews more than anything else.
Fast answers by phone or text
You deal directly with the owner. Questions get answered quickly, the crew shows up when we say it will, and you always know what is happening next on your project.
Premium paint and color help
We use Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore products chosen for each surface and room, and we paint sample patches so you can judge colors in your own light before deciding.
One crew for paint and remodeling
Beyond painting, we refinish cabinets, apply liquid wallpaper, restore and build decks, and remodel kitchens and bathrooms, so a bigger project does not mean juggling several contractors.
FAQ
House painting in Natick: common questions
Still have a question? Call or text us anytime.
Does Pro House Painters serve Natick?
Yes. Natick is about 11 miles from our base in Maynard, and we serve the full town, from Walnut Hill and Natick Center to South Natick and the neighborhoods along Route 9.
Are you insured?
Yes. Our workers' compensation and liability coverage applies to every Natick project we take on. Operating since 2016, we can send proof of insurance along with the written quote.
What does it cost to paint a Natick house?
Cost depends on the size of the home, the siding type and the condition of the surfaces. A Victorian with original wood clapboard needs more prep than a mid-century ranch with vinyl siding. The free written estimate spells out every line item so you know exactly what you are paying for.
My home is in the Wethersfield neighborhood and has the original Campanelli aluminum siding. Can you paint it?
Yes. Aluminum siding needs a thorough wash and a bonding primer on any chalky or bare areas, then it takes paint well. We specify a product made for aluminum and explain the prep in the estimate.
Does the Boston Marathon weekend affect scheduling?
Marathon weekend in April brings significant traffic through Natick Center. We work around it during scheduling, and most exterior projects are not affected since the main painting season starts shortly after.
My house near South Natick has mold on the north side of the siding. Is that something you address?
Yes. Mildew on shaded siding is common near the Charles River. We treat it during the wash and prep phase, using a cleaning solution designed to kill mold spores, and we apply a mildew-resistant primer to those exposures before the finish coat.
Does Natick require a permit for house painting?
A paint-only job in Natick normally goes ahead without a building permit. Deck construction and structural repairs typically do. If any part of your project needs a permit, we will let you know during the estimate. Natick's Building Department contacts are on the Town of Natick website.
When should Natick homeowners book exterior painting?
Late April through mid-October gives the most reliable conditions. Spring slots fill quickly, so scheduling a free estimate in late winter gives you the earliest available dates.
Can you paint the interior of my house any time of year?
Yes. Interior painting has no weather dependency, so it can be scheduled through the winter months when exterior slots are unavailable. Many Natick homeowners use the off-season for kitchens, bedrooms and cabinet refinishing.
Can you refinish kitchen cabinets in a Natick home?
Yes. Cabinet refinishing is one of the best value-per-dollar improvements a Natick kitchen can get. Solid cabinets in good structural condition can be given a completely new color and finish in days, without the cost of replacement.
My Natick home was built in the 1960s. Is lead paint a concern?
Homes built before 1978 may have lead-based paint. For a 1960s home, it is a real possibility. We follow Massachusetts lead-safe work practices for any paint disturbance in those homes: containment, dust control, cleanup and proper disposal. Each of those steps is laid out in the state's lead-safe guide for homeowners.
What paint brands do you use?
We use Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore, selecting the product line suited to each surface and use. If you have a specific color or product in mind, we are happy to work with it.
Do you take commercial painting work in Natick?
Yes. We work with retailers, restaurants, offices and property managers throughout Natick, including along Route 9 and around Natick Center. We schedule around business hours and use low-odor products in occupied spaces.
About the town
Learn about Natick, MA
John Eliot's Praying Town and early history
Natick's history begins in 1651, when Puritan missionary John Eliot founded a "Praying Town" here for the Massachusett people who had converted to Christianity. The town was incorporated as a separate municipality in 1781, decades after many of its Native residents were displaced during King Philip's War in 1675 and subsequently died on Deer Island in Boston Harbor during a forced relocation.
Shoe manufacturing defined Natick's economy in the nineteenth century, accelerating after the 1858 introduction of the sewing machine. A fire in 1874 destroyed much of downtown Natick Center, which explains why most of the buildings visible there today date from the late Victorian era rather than earlier. The town earned its "Home of Champions" nickname in 1891 after a hook-and-ladder team won a national competition.
Neighborhoods from Walnut Hill to South Natick
Natick's neighborhoods reflect the different eras of its growth. Walnut Hill, in the north part of town near Route 9, has a collection of late-Victorian homes with detailed woodwork and the kind of original character that rewards careful exterior and interior painting. The Oak Street neighborhood, near Jennings Pond, has a mix of Cape-style homes and former summer cottages, many of which have been enlarged and updated over the decades.
Wethersfield, west of downtown, is one of the most recognizable mid-century neighborhoods in MetroWest: the Campanelli-built ranch and slab-style homes there are a consistent type with aluminum siding, low profiles and relatively straightforward prep for an experienced crew. South Natick, along the Charles River, has some of the town's oldest homes and a quieter, more rural feel, even though it is minutes from the commercial center.
The Boston Marathon and Natick Center
The Boston Marathon has passed through Natick every year since 1897, entering from Ashland and running through the center of town on the way toward Wellesley. The stretch through Natick Center is one of the most recognizable sections of the course, with the Natick Common, Casey's Diner (operating since 1922) and the restored Central Fire Station — now the Center for Arts in Natick — lining the route.
Natick Center is the civic and cultural heart of town, and the Town of Natick provides information on local permits, events and town services. The Morse Institute Library and the Henry Wilson shoe shop, a National Historic Landmark, are nearby.
Open space and the Charles River
The Charles River forms much of Natick's southern boundary, and the town has protected significant open space along its banks. The river and the ponds scattered through the residential neighborhoods — including Dug Pond, Lake Cochituate and Jennings Pond — give the town its landscape character and also shape the conditions for exterior painting on nearby homes.
Homes close to water or under heavy tree canopy stay wetter on shaded exposures, which makes mildew washing and mildew-resistant primers a meaningful part of prep, not an optional upgrade. Those same homes often have wooden decks that need attention before or alongside an exterior paint job.
What Natick's housing stock means for a paint job
The variety of Natick's housing — from Victorian-era to Campanelli ranch to contemporary colonial — means that the right approach differs significantly from street to street. The common thread on homes built before 1978 is lead paint management: every older home in Natick should be assumed to have lead-based coatings until tested otherwise, and prep should follow Massachusetts lead-safe guidelines accordingly.
Beyond lead paint, the two biggest variables in Natick are siding type and tree cover. Wood-sided Victorians and colonials need the most surface prep but take paint beautifully when done right. Mid-century aluminum and vinyl siding homes need a compatible primer and careful color selection. Homes under heavy canopy need thorough mildew treatment. A good written estimate from any painter should address all three of those factors directly.
